*edit* or, perhaps a better word is, *disappointment.* I really felt a connection or something from Mr. Miller's talks. I had been struggling with religion and existance in general for a few years, but these talks seemed to get me on the right track. I copied this quote not out of "Origin" itself, but rather from Mr. Miller's presentation. This is how the quote appears in "Origin:" "There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed by the Creator into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being evolved." ~Charles Darwin Why would Miller have left that bit out? *end edit, 15 Mar 2008*
I recently attended two presentations by Kenneth Miller, the lead expert witness for the "Darwinist" side of the Dover trial. He argued against the teaching of intelligent design, and for excellent reasons, and he explained simply how one could be a scientist and practice religion at the same time. They were excellent presentations, and I recommend that, if you ever get the chance to hear him speak, do so. He's a great guy.
Anyway, this quote is the very last sentence in Darwin's "Origin of Species," and it really sums up everything that Professor Miller had to say. I didn't want to put it under photo manipulation, because that part of making this was so simple. I wish there was just a category called "Soul." Not a subcategory of anything else. Just... simple like that. Anyway... Since it is technically a photo manip, I should put in some credits.
Darwins theory is very interesting. And has alot more proof backing it than creationism. But the problem is that so many people argue over which is the right one. And that will never end until either God is proven to exist, or proven not to exist. lol.
Its only with faith in one that either is true. Faith in the proof of evolution, and faith in a creator.
I know Evolution happens, because it does. But on the Theology side... I'm not sure what I believe... lol.
Part of me thinks that the old gods exist... and part of me thinks that it wasn't any of the gods that we hear about today but a seperate entity known as a Creator... ok I stole that one from Terry Pratchett
I do really like this work lol, sorry about me rambling... I don't have much else to do at night and I like to ramble on DA.

And it's impossible to prove that God does or doesn't exist, just as it is impossible to prove anything. It's a matter, I think, of finding a common ground and being open-minded about the faith of the people around you. Let everyone practice what they believe, so long as no one is being harmed.
Thanks for the thoughtful soliloquy! Glad you like it!
Exactly, each to their own. So long as they do not force others to accept what they believe, of course if things have been proven then to ignore them is to try and turn back the tide yourself lol. But sometimes people will still say that they are right against all the proof otherwise.
I can't say i GOD is real, if one god is the right one or the wrong one, or if god is the person running the show lol. And I don't try to know. Because even if I did know, its only what I think and not what others think. Darwin proved evolution, its obvious that it happens, maybe god created animals or not, but that doesn't mean because evolution happens god can't have created them.
I just hate it when one religion condemns another... Why? you all have your own points to your believers, but you don't need to convert all of earth.
And when did religions become Mythologies? and no longer viewed as the same as any religion alive today lol, as there is no real differences as far as I can see... save people don't practice the older religions as openly as the modern day ones

I think with the trying to convert people, there's a lot more that goes into it than just religious people trying to persuade people they're right. From one interpretation of the Cristian bible, evangelism is not "Go out and tell everyone they're wrong and they'll go to hell if they don't believe in Jesus." Rather, the bible tells Christians that if they consciously try to act biblically, then people will see the light of God in them and want themselves to come to God. I love this definition of evangelism, because I feel it is a lot more tolerant and loving.
And I definitely do not think that Darwin proved evolution. Again, I don't think that anything can be proven. It can just be irrefutably supported. But, yeah, I think it's definitely possible that there was and is a power guiding evolution, and that all the tiny little random, just-by-chance mutations that keep making new traits are just too random not to have been guided by a higher power. I think God has a plan for all of us, personally, and He has a plan for all our DNA and which of it we will pass on or will not pass on. Personally.
well things CAN be proven... like gravity and light etc. Evolution is near as damn proven, since we do know that the creatures of earth share similar traits and have changed over time. Its kinda there really lol. We can even see it in some of humanity today, how if you look futher back humans have changed over the past 2000 years.
Yeah I can see what you mean about that way of showing people the light and then they follow it because of the feeling of respect and devotion in them that showed em it. And while some people do that, I do agree with what marcus brigstoke said awhile back "Without the general populous of a religion the nutters and fantatics have no one to support them. Like if no one watches big brother then the show doesn't carry on." which makes sense but obviously its a rather cynical take on religion lol
Maybe god is the one who controls our evolution, but evolution does happen, be it by the hand of god or by our need to survive.
I have always thought that the world did not just have one god, or one creator. I do like the idea that the old pantheons of Greece and the norse and the Egyptians all existed but I've never claimed to fully believe in anything. So I don't plan to say any religion is right or that any god is the true god. Who knows? maybe when we die we find none of it was real and our existence was just a fluke lol or it turns out we were created by a bunch of drunk wizards in another reality xD

Good points, but it actually is false to say that anything can be proven. Nothing can be proven, not even gravity. The "Law" of Gravity is such because it has a ton of evidence backing it and it can be expressed mathematically, but there is no way to prove it exists. It's just an immaculately supported theory.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
